Purpose:The City of Savannah and Chatham County, Georgia are currently seeking a law enforcement professional with high energy and integrity to assume the challenges and responsibility of the Chief of Police for the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department (SCMPD).

Essential Job Functions:The Chief must set objectives, implement innovative crime reduction and prevention strategies, and achieve improvements in public confidence by being a forward thinking individual who can leverage technology and information to maximize crime fighting resources within the community. In addition to an unprecedented devotion to the growth and leadership of the Savannah Chatham Metropolitan Police Department, the City of Savannah and citizens of Chatham County will look to the Chief to direct aggressive, analytically driven neighborhood-oriented patrols; develop and implement effective strategies for prosecution and interdiction of repeat offenders; and focus initiatives on reducing juvenile crime.

Minimum Qualifications:Qualifications for this position include a Master’s degree in Public Administration, law enforcement, or related field along with seven (7) years of experience in upper level police management.  The candidate must be P.O.S.T. certified in the state of Georgia or have the ability to obtain aforementioned certification. Organizationally, the Chief leads a budgeted workforce of 833 officers and staff that serves a population of approximately 276,000 in the Savannah-Chatham area.  The Chief of the SCMPD must be a forward-thinking individual who can set objectives and the strategic direction for the department, implement innovative crime reduction and prevention strategies, leverage technology to improve the capacity of the department, and maximize crime fighting resources within the community.  The Chief must be able to foster strong partnerships and working relationships with various stakeholders, including business and community leaders, City and County government officials, other law enforcement agencies, and public constituents in order to gain public and community trust and confidence.   The Chief must demonstrate strong character, integrity, and leadership, and demonstrate an unwavering commitment to excellence.
