The City of Champaign, IL, a diverse community of 81,000 residents with a vibrant city center and home to the University of Illinois, is seeking a progressive leader to serve as Police Chief. This position serves as a member of the City's leadership team and reports to the City Manager. Responsibilities for the Police Chief include providing leadership and supervision to approximately 117 sworn and 26 civilian personnel in the areas of intelligence-led policing, patrol, traffic, criminal investigations and related activities and services.

Candidates must have extensive experience in police work as a Chief, Deputy Chief, or equivalent; graduated from an accredited college or university with a degree in criminal justice, police administration or related field, master's degree preferred. Must have comprehensive knowledge of current issues in police management and the principles of public administration; comprehensive knowledge of statutory and procedural law and civil liability; and the ability to organize, direct and control local police affairs consistent with the requirements of laws, union contracts, and municipal policy.

The ideal candidate will have experience in and demonstrated commitment to inclusive police and community relations, community oriented policing, intergovernmental relations, community problem solving, have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, team leadership ability, participative management style, and the ability to work with diverse groups and individuals.
