The City of Albuquerque, New Mexico (the 31st largest city in the United States) is conducting a national search for the position of Chief of Police. Ideal candidates must be of the highest integrity and have a proven track record of proactive, hands-on, participative management experience and possess excellent interpersonal, problem solving, communication, leadership, and financial management skills. The next Chief of Police will have a broad and varied professional background which demonstrates success in working with diverse communities while leading a professional law enforcement agency engaged in proactive community policing. This at-will executive position is appointed by the Mayor of Albuquerque and is directly responsible to the Chief Administrative Officer for the efficient management of all Police Department activities, including a FY 2013 budget of $155 million and staff of approximately 1,500 employees (sworn and civilian). This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in police science, criminal justice, law enforcement, business, public administration, or a closely related field. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 10 continuous years of experience in municipal law enforcement; 3 years of which are equivalent to Police Captain/Commander or above. Completion of an advanced police management school is desired. The successful candidate must have a New Mexico Law Enforcement Certification or the ability to obtain within one year of hiring date.
This recruitment will incorporate existing rules and regulations that govern public sector recruitments in the State of New Mexico.
