In Seattle recently, a 911 caller told police that a man was sitting in his car, bleeding from a gunshot wound.
When officers got to the scene they found a 24-year-old man who claimed to be the victim of an attempted robbery. It didn’t take long for the guy’s story to come apart at the seams.

The wound looked self-inflicted and officers found a Smith & Wesson .38 stashed in the bushes nearby.

Eventually the man came clean.

There was no robber.

He just accidentally shot himself in the leg.

Why didn't he tell the truth?

In addition to being a five-time felon which makes it illegal to own a gun, the guy apparently booby-trapped his own car and then forgot about the trap or couldn’t figure out how to dislodge the weapon safely.

Police said the man cocked the hammer on the gun and put it below his steering wheel as an "anti-theft device" while he went for a jog.

When he returned and attempted to de-booby trap the vehicle and the gun went off.
