On one hand, it’s kind of cute when ordinary citizens want to help out local law enforcement in fighting crime. On the other hand, it can be a royal pain. While there isn’t an agency on the map that couldn’t use some help from reserves or volunteers, it’s hard to imagine anyone wanting to work with guys like "Mr. Xtreme" and "MidKnight." Those guys are just two of the self-styled "super-heroes" who are on a mission to keep the citizens of San Diego, California safe.

Where else but in the good ‘ole USA would someone file a $10 million  federal lawsuit because she was stopped from bringing her 120 pound livestock guard dog onto a New York City subway? Outraged, Estelle Stamm, 65, says the dog should be considered a “service animal” under the Americans With Disabilities Act. The dog, Stamm claims, keeps her from having panic attacks. But when city lawyers did an internet search they discovered Stamm had made web postings concerning her  dog’s “killing power” and how exciting it was when “seas of people parted before us” on crowded subway cars.

In San Antonio, Texas, a man who rammed his truck into a woman’s vehicle on a highway allegedly told authorities he crashed into her while going more than 100 mph because God told him “she needed to be taken off the road.” The truck rear-ended the car on U.S. Highway 281, both vehicles spun across a median then came to a stop along a barrier in the opposite lanes. Amazingly both drivers suffered only minor injuries. “He just said God said she wasn’t driving right, and she needed to be taken off the road,” Bexar County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Kyle Coleman said in the online edition of the San Antonio Express-News. “God must have been with them, ‘cause any other time, the severity of this crash, it would have been fatal.”

An Ohio woman is in critical condition after police say her husband shot her while they were having sex. According to the Associated Press, Timothy Havens, 38, told Springfield police he was reaching for something on the nightstand when the pistol went off, hitting his estranged wife Carolyn in the upper chest.
