Propper International has introduced a new line of law enforcement outerwear inspired by advanced technologies from both the military and high-end ski and mountain gear. The new, lightweight waterproof-breathable line, named Propper Defender™ Series, is designed to replace heavy and outdated law enforcement jackets with the latest in outerwear technology.
The design includes Propper's exclusive HALT waterproof-breathable barrier, a Special Forces inspired Peripheral Vision Hood System (PVHS)-an integrated stow-away hood contoured to your face and head for maximum visibility and an Action Fit Design with articulated sleeves/elbows for greater range of motion.
The jackets are specifically designed for law enforcement professionals with molded badge tabs, microphone clips and side zippers on each hip that allow quick access to an officer's duty belt or weapon. "We saw an opportunity to use many of the advanced applications that we use in our military designs to produce a line for law enforcement outerwear that would replace the outdated designs in the marketplace," Said Tom Kellim, President, Propper International, Inc. The Propper Defender™ Series includes seven styles, aptly named with a NATO series nomenclature, including Propper Defender™ Alpha, Bravo, Delta, Echo, Gamma and two hi-vis jackets, Halo I and Halo II.
Several important features are the foundation for the series' leading-edge design. First, all of the jackets, except the Echo Softshell, feature Propper's exclusive Halt™ barrier for optimum waterproof-breathable performance. These are two and three-layer laminate barriers, originally designed for the military, which are exceptionally light and less bulky for a better fit that enhances freedom of movement. Second, all jackets, except the softshell, are factory seam sealed to meet the highest standards of waterproof protection. Additionally, most jackets feature Propper's unique Peripheral Vision Hood System (PVHS) for increased visibility-a hood system first designed for covert, military special-forces teams. Unlike many hoods that are bulky and block your vision when turning your head side-to-side, this is a lightweight, integrated hood design that contours to your face/head to provide maximum visibility. The hood's thermo-laminate visor provides extra coverage from the rain and easily adjusts to your face/head using elastic, pull-down draw cords with barrel locks. Also unique to the system, the hood neatly tucks away into a drop-down, stow-able pocket that lays flat along the shoulder area of the jacket eliminating bulk around the neck. Finally, Propper's "Action Fit Design" is built into all of the styles offering superior anatomical fit for an advanced range of motion with articulated sleeves and elbows. For the user, this means that you can move your arms above your head or forward with ease while your jacket stays in place and doesn't rise above your belt.
Several jackets in the line stand out for their unique design and function such as the Echo Softshell, The Delta Drop Panel Duty Jacket and the Halo I and Halo II Hi Vis rain jackets.
The Echo softshell is an advanced and contemporary design with a contoured fit that looks good on and off duty. The durable 95% polyester/ 5% spandex stretch-woven shell is highly water and abrasion resistant with a poly-fleece backing that can be worn as an insulating liner for several jackets in the line or as a stylish, mid-weight, stand alone jacket. The Echo is constructed with snap hooks that conveniently fit into the line's Delta, Gamma and Halo I jackets to be used as an insulating liner for added warmth.
In addition to outstanding waterproof-breathable performance, the Delta Drop Panel Duty Jacket is specifically designed for law enforcement with built-in ID panels for Law Enforcement and Fire professionals. The jacket features two chest-high compartments with a third along the back to store and attach zippered service identification panels. Options include "POLICE", "SHERIFF" and "FIRE" ID panels or blank panels to sew on local department badges and/or nametapes.
Propper Defender's Halo I and Halo II rain jackets are designed to meet ANSI 2004 Class 3 certification for high visibility apparel with hi Vis yellow fabric and two rows of 360 degree horizontal, reflective webbing. Halo I is a durable 100% polyester, HI Vis Yellow rain jacket with an extended drop tail for added rain protection. Halo I features sealed seams and a super light, 3-in-1 laminate membrane for exceptional waterproof-breathable performance. Halo II is a versatile, reversible jacket that converts from highly durable 100% Nylon outer shell in black or LAPD Navy to a Hi Vis yellow traffic stopper with reflective webbing. Both jackets feature Propper's exclusive Peripheral Vision Hood System (PVHS), molded badge tabs and hip-side zippers for quick access to officer's duty belt and/or weapon.
