Obama to talk to students Pre K-6
Comrad NOBAMAs brain washing begins. As the Marine said at one of the Town Halls - KEEP AWAY FROM MY CHILDREN.
President Obama’s Address to Students Across America September 8, 2009
PreK-6 Menu of Classroom Activities: President Obama’s Address to Students Across America
Produced by Teaching Ambassador Fellows, U.S. Department of Education
September 8, 2009
Before the Speech:
• Teachers can build background knowledge about the President of the United States and his speech by reading books about presidents and Barack Obama and motivate students by asking the following questions:
Who is the President of the United States?
What do you think it takes to be President?
To whom do you think the President is going to be speaking?
Why do you think he wants to speak to you?
What do you think he will say to you?
• Teachers can ask students to imagine being the President delivering a speech to all of the students in the United States. What would you tell students? What can students do to help in our schools? Teachers can chart ideas about what they would say.
• Why is it important that we listen to the President and other elected officials, like the mayor, senators, members of congress, or the governor? Why is what they say important?
During the Speech:
• As the President speaks, teachers can ask students to write down key ideas or phrases that are important or personally meaningful. Students could use a note-taking graphic organizer such as a Cluster Web, or students could record their thoughts on sticky notes. Younger children can draw pictures and write as appropriate. As students listen to the speech, they could think about the following:
What is the President trying to tell me?
What is the President asking me to do?
What new ideas and actions is the President challenging me to think about?
• Students can record important parts of the speech where the President is asking them to do something. Students might think about: What specific job is he asking me to do? Is he asking anything of anyone else? Teachers? Principals? Parents? The American people?

What a perfect age to indoctrinate a young person to your beliefs. His (Obama) staff/advisors are not stupid starting with the young. He (Obama) plans to be around for at least 8 years and he's got to start with the young. This guy (Obama) has plans and ideas for this country beyond our wildest imaginations. Hold on kiddies, it's going to be a bumpy ride. For those who voted for him, you wanted change. You got it. It is coming.
As today's police officers you are not unlike your counterparts of years past. You are an elite group of select members, a brotherhood of highly trained professionals, who are called upon to protect your community in a time of need. Guardians for safety. Being a police officer is not for the faint of heart. You must be honest, trustworthy and fearless in the face of evil. You are being watched everyday. Represent yourself, your department and the shield, for it should always be the embodiment of all that is good and justly. You are the thin blue line. Be proud, be tough and be safe.

As an involved parent, discuss the speech with your child, and point out how your family views differ.
If he crosses a line, point out to your child that the President works for us, and that he does not speak for your family values.
Otherwise, the President speaking to children is or should be a normal event.I'm your huckleberry...

I dare him to tell my kid that police are stupid... (if he were in person, he'd better be wearing shinguards).

I will check and see if the question, answer and discussion material provided by the Department of Education will be at my childrens' school. If it is they will miss that day. Schools may opt out if they choose.

A lady at work said her school emailed all the parents, and informed them that their kids will not be watching Obama in the classroom. they recommended that the parents tape Obama's speech and play it to their kids at night, if they so desire.
They said that there would not be an option to watch Obama in class because it would be disruptive to the lesson plans to have some students in class and others watching TV.
I think that's a great approach - Let the parents decide.
You just KNOW that Obama parents will be crying racism, though.

Bush addressed kids in school while he was in office as well. As maclean said, the President speaking to kids should be a normal part of them being in office. I don't see the problem if all he's saying is "stay in school and work hard". However, if anything crosses his lips like "what can you do for me" or "it's your job to serve the President", then we're going to have issues. I think it's a good way for children to take more pride in their country as well as being personally invested in the work that our elected officials are doing. And yes, parents should absolutely parent and speak with their kids about what they hear...but God forbid that happen as a whole.

That's what started the uproar - The preview literature for the speech suggested that teachers ask their students to write letters to themselves on how they could help the president.
If the administration had not encouraged teachers to ask the kids to do something in direct opposition to what a lot of parents are teaching their kids about Obama's dangerous socialist policies, then I don't think there would be any uproar.
There is NO WAY a lot of parents want their kids helping Obama, especially in their own mind. He was basically planting an idea in kids' minds that perhaps their parents might be wrong if they are against him.
I think someone in the administration decided on a subtle psychological approach to undermining the parents' authority in teaching their kids ideas that conflict with Obama's policies, and the administration simply got called out on it, which is what they deserved.

Prior Presidencies may have addressed children in schools, their main objective was to promote education and literacy. As far as I know, they were addressed in person, (either by the president himself or the first lady) & not televised. But BO is the Teleprompter King.
I do not have too much faith in Pres BO, but he is a father and hopefully he keeps his message non political.
Classes do not begin until Wed Sept 9th in NYC Public schools. But it would not surprise me if the teachers tape it to show at a later date.

Hmmm... Eliminate slavery: Wouldn't that require going to war to free those people from their own governments, like George Bush did in Iraq? I thought that was wrong for us to impose our values on the world.

Instead of taking two days to make a PSA shaming other people into doing it, it seems to me that all those celebrities should voluntarily send all of their spare $$$millions to the Federal Government, crush and recycle all their expensive cars, and open their mansions up to the homeless, as an example to all of us on how we can accomplish all those lofty goals.
It sounds so good to do most of that stuff, until you realize that doing all that would cause everyone to neglect their OWN families, in terms of both spare time and money. Most people these days can't spare a lot of either - But I'm sure a new government program would spring up to raise your children for you while you're being a mentor to someone else's children.
There's also the disturbing interjection of being a "servant" to Obama and to the United Nations, and the idea that even Hybrid cars are a gross abuse of the environment, not to mention the fact that satisfying every one's needs would destroy any sense of self-reliance.
Of course, those celebrities can pay people to raise their kids for them, chauffeur them around, protect them, and they can get another spouse on the set of their next movie project if their current spouse feels neglected and leaves them - So they really don't need to spend a lot of time with their families or need time to rest - they have plenty of spare time to devote to full-time charity work, and some of them do just that. Others don't. They can also take several years off from work without running out of money the first week, so they don't need second jobs.
But it's a noble start that they don't use plastic bags and cut down on bottled water - I'm sure the millions of employees of oil, chemical, and plastics companies would thank the "Greanies" for putting them in the unemployment line.
