Cops probe why subcompact drove over two other cars

SYDNEY — In the category of strange but true, police in Sydney are trying to figure out how a Hyundai Accent was driven over the tops of two parked vehicles Monday night before landing on its roof.

Cape Breton Regional Police say it all happened at about 8 p.m. outside the Petro-Canada gas station on Kings Road in Sydney River.

The Hyundai was stopped at the gas station but suddenly accelerated and drove over the top of a Toyota Corolla, which was backing out from the pumps. It continued over an Acura Integra, which was stopped and waiting to pull into the pumps.

The Hyundai landed on its roof.

"Why" is interesting, it's the "How" that has me scratching my head.

Without seeing the end positions... It ran up the first car's tire, had enough speed and energy to continue over the A-pillar, across the roof, and to the other car.

I've seen the first part. Had a drunk basically pass out at the wheel, drift across the road, and hit a parked car at just the right combination of angles to roll up the wheel that way. I've since run it by several reconstructionists to figure out the speed necessary... and everybody pretty much throws up their hands.
