Here is the gratuitous royal wedding thread...

"It's a great life. You risk your skin catching killers and the juries turn them loose so they can come back and shoot at you again. If your honest , your poor your whole life. And , In the end , you wind up dying all alone on some dirty street. For what? For nothing. For a tin star."
Far from being a handicap to command, compassion is the measure of it. For unless one values the lives of his soldiers and is tormented by their ordeals , he is unfit to command.

Why does anybody care? It's a fake monarchy that doesn't do anything. A friend of my wife stayed up all night long watching the coverage. I can't think of anything more vapid. Except, possibly, Lindsay Lohan gonig to court again.
That which does not kill me, better start fucking running.

I'd like to hear about how the people of Japan are doing or how friends in the south, whom we've not heard from, are doing...not about a couple of rich people nor about what their expensive clothing costs or looks like.http://www.odmp.org/officer/16551-de...l-eron-shannon
Police Officers put themselves at risk for strangers every day. Some do not make it home to their families. Next time you think of saying something negative about the police, remember...YOU are one of the strangers.

Don't worry the UK news, which is obviously more balanced, followed the wedding highlights with a long piece about the southern states.
I will say that is is nice to have a countries figurehead(non political) that has an approval rate of over 80% of the population and who does more to unite a country than to divide it.
Oh and the brides sister........oh yeh!!the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.

My wife & I watched the wedding from start to when the networks dropped it and then on to BBC America. We thought it was just great and the Brits sure know how to throw a party. Just like a Fairy Tale. What with all that is going on in the world, it was a nice distraction. Some things I noticed was the completge orderlyness of the crowd around the Palace and else where. Could you imagine a crowd that size in NY behaving so when they dropped the barriers so they could go up to the Fence around the Palace? No rushing, shoving, pushing, etc. AND, the crazy hats. I agree with Motorway Cop. Jolly Good Show.

Many years ago I was on protection with Princes William and Harry, walking in Battersea Park. Harry was in a push chair ( think you colonials call them strollers?) William was running around like little kids do, when he started to climb some temporary railings. These railings were around a monument and only held up by concrete blocks that they were wedged in to. Nanny Barnes called to him, ''William, William dear get down please.'' He carried on climbing. Nanny Barnes repeated her call a couple of times, but William was taking no notice. The railings looked none to safe, so being a Dad with kids around the same age, and also being their Protection Officer, I decided to act. ''WILLIAM'', I screamed, ''GET DOWN FROM THERE WHEN YOU ARE TOLD! NOW!!!'' He did.

Nanny Barnes turned to me and said, '' We don't talk to the future King of England like that.'' I said, ''We do when he is about to become the EX future King of England!''.
