Shot man Mark Saunders 'not allowed' to speak to friend
I hate the public sometimes, What sort of idiot thinks strolling up to the door of a flat where a man is shooting at his neighbours is ever going to be a good idea.
A barrister who was shot dead by police in a stand-off, was given no opportunity to speak to his friend, Westminster Coroner's Court has heard.
Mark Saunders, 32, who had been firing a shotgun, was hit in the head and chest by five police bullets at his Chelsea home in 2008.
His friend Michael Bradley said he was told by police that he could not go to speak to the man, for his own safety.
He said the response from one officer was "instant and negative".Would it now, don't you think it might have caused an esculating hostage situation or perhaps resulted in a fatal shooting? The man, who was also Mr Saunders' colleague, told the court knocking at the front door of the flat would have been an obvious way of calming the situation.

BBC News - Film of Chelsea gun lawyer Mark Saunders shooting shown
I'm interested in the argument that a man hanging out of a window with a shotgun poses no danger I need to hear more from the family on this pointThe moment a drunken barrister was shot dead by armed police following a siege has been played to a Coroner's Court.
Mark Saunders, 32, was involved in a three-hour standoff at his Chelsea flat in 2008 after firing a shotgun into a neighbouring flat.
Westminster Coroner's Court was played footage of the siege filmed from a police helicopter.
The officers say they were forced to fire to protect their safety. Mr Saunders' family say he posed no risk.
The footage shows the lawyer dangling from the window of his fourth-storey flat and waving a shotgun.

Should have let him go in. The worst thing that could have happened is that the world would have been down two lawyers.

Wow, I can't believe the brutality of cops over there! Clearly they should have shot him in the leg, or better yet, shot the gun from his hand. Sheesh!

Chelsea gunman Mark Saunders lawfully killed by police
BBC News - Chelsea gunman Mark Saunders lawfully killed by police
A barrister who was shot by police marksmen following a five-hour armed stand-off in west London was lawfully killed, an inquest jury has found.
The siege began after Mark Saunders, 32, fired shots from his home in Markham Square, Chelsea, on 6 May 2008.
The Westminster Coroner's Court jury found the actions of the officers were lawful, proportionate and reasonable."all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" Edmund Burke.

Man waves gun at police, police shoot man.
And it took how much money and media talk to find this was "lawful, proportionate and reasonable."
The real shocker is that the coroner criticised the police command structure on scene, bloody hell that's a first. Gaffers giving out confusing messages and nobody knowing who's in charge!the sole advantage of power is that you can do more good.

It always goes to ratshit when they decide to have a Gold, Silver, Bronze who are not from the Firearms Dept.
I once had a Mister to Mister chat with a Governor (Ch. Supt.), when he couldn't understand that I was the Tactical Advisor present and the Firearms guys would do what I said and not what he thought they should do. It got a bit fraught when I told two of the team to escort him outside the cordon, as he was getting in the way. They did.
I had the last laugh, he complained and because of the paperwork he generated about the incident, I got a Commissioner's Commendation. To be born an Englishman, is to be a winner in the Lottery of Life.

You could change that to Operational officers, when was the last time anyone above the rank of inspector went to a spontanious incident and got some time on the ground actually dealing with the public.
I think silver command is a bit of a waste of time if you still have control room involvment and the gold command should stay close to the HQ command suite where they can read all sorts of computer systems and watch hundreds of CCTV feeds so much info they don't actually get time to interfere with the events on the ground."all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" Edmund Burke.

Rosemary Saunders, of Alderley Edge, Cheshire, told the Sunday Telegraph police failed to manage the situation.
She said her only son, who had been drinking heavily, should have been allowed to speak to his wife before the siege at their London flat escalated."all that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing" Edmund Burke.
