Child molestor gets prison time. 588 years
Personally I think they should fry him or send him back to his home country but at least he is off the streets where he can't harm anyone anymore.
This is proof that there are parts of California that are conservative.

MERCED -- Convicted child molester Iganacio Vargas sat expressionless as his fate was read aloud today in Merced County Superior Court: 588 years in prison.
Vargas, 40, will be eligible for parole in about 400 years, which means he'll live the rest life -- and will ultimately die -- behind prison walls.
He was convicted by a Merced County jury last month on 37 counts of molesting a girl from July 2005 until 2007. The victim was 8-years-old when the abuse began.
Dressed in a yellow jail jumpsuit, Vargas, a resident of Merced, said nothing throughout the hearing, as he listened to the proceedings on headphones through a Spanish interpreter.
Prosecutor David Sandhaus characterized Vargas as a calculating sexual predator who knew the victim's mother -- and used his trusted position as a father figure in the girl's life to abuse her time after time again.
Sandhaus described in graphic detail how Vargas told the victim that he would sexually abuse her 3-year-old brother and unborn sister -- unless she submitted to his advances.
Because of the abuse, Vargas robbed the victim of her precious childhood years, Sandhaus said. "He used his superior size and power to subdue the victim for sexual acts," Sandhaus said. "She had no childhood once this person entered her life."
Caleb Hegland, Vargas' attorney, spoke briefly during the sentencing hearing, saying that his client continues to maintain his innocence and plans to appeal the conviction. During Vargas' trial, Hegland argued that no DNA from Vargas was found on the victim. He also tried to cast doubt on some of the locations where the abuse happened.
Still, the jury and Judge Carol Ash were convinced of Vargas' guilt.
Before reading the verdict, Ash decried Vargas' crimes, saying the trial was one of the most difficult she had ever sat through. She said the testimony of the victim indicated that Vargas had been "planning and grooming" her for abuse. Ash said she was particularly disturbed how Vargas threatened the victim's younger brother and unborn sister. "You basically just ruined her life," Ash said to Vargas.
Vargas was convicted on a variety of charges, including felony aggravated sexual assault of a child, sexual intercourse with a child 10 years or younger, penetration with a foreign object and forced oral copulation.

I'd agree with the 588 year sentence on one condition: That his corpse serve every last second of that time in a cell. So by the time he is to be removed, they are sweeping him up into a dustpan.
And the only other prisoners that are to put in the same cell with that guy's smelly corpse are other baby-diddlers."If everyone is thinking alike, then someone isn't thinking." -Gen. George S. Patton

Anyone read the story on the homepage yet? Apparently this kind of sentance is the exception not the rule:

Hopefully with more information like that, it'll become the rule.
