a couple people i know where threatened with the registry when they were caught taking a piss behind a dumpster. might well have been a scare tactic, but they heard it and freaked out.

to me, there is a difference between pissing behind a dumpster, and pissing in the middle of the playground during recess.

thats why i don't care for the sex offender registry as it stands right now. I can do a search of my city, find 100 results, along with their pictures, but only a VERY vague explanation of what they did....usually "criminal sexual conduct # degree. doesn't say if they are a rapist or the proverbial 18 year old sleeping with his 17 year old girlfriend.

hell, i've also heard about people who had to register and let their neighbors know, and all that. so the guy goes over with his wife and says, "i'm a registered sex offender...i slept with her when she was 17, we've been married 10 years and have two kids."

that may be an urban legend of sorts, since i don't know anybody personally who has done it, but...you get the point

if someone is a true sexual predator, they should be locked up forever. as it stands, i want to know that if someone is on the list, they're on it for a REAL reason, not a technical one.

First of all, I know what you guys are thinking and no, I didn't do it.

If I did, I would have taken the body right to the MSP crime lab which is in Northville. That would save the state a lot of money as all of the evidence would have been delivered to them instead of paying all those people to go out and collect it.

Don't these criminals know that our State Police budget is shot? The least they could have done would be deliver the body to the crime lab. Criminals have no consideration these days.

Maybe there should be a central body desposal site. Hmmmmm

I am going to write a letter to Jenny about that, maybe that's the answer to the MSP budget. Sure beats limiting the patrol cars to 40 miles a day.

That would be even funnier if just this week, a body hadn't been found on the front lawn of our PD, complete with weapon. Still not sure what's going on with that, haven't yet heard if it was murder or suicide.

Dad begs: Help find who killed my son

    Sex offender was found decapitated

    November 9, 2007
    By BEN SCHMITT
    FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER

Jim Sorensen is not only coping with the image of his 26-year-old son's decapitation, he's trying to defend his son's reputation surrounding a sex offense conviction.
As Northville police continued to search for suspects in the killing of Daniel Sorensen of River Rouge, his father begged Friday that anyone with information call police or turn themselves in.

"If you know anything, look at what this person did to my son," said Jim Sorensen, 51, of Westland. "If you were involved, turn yourself in because you will be caught."

Police, with the assistance of the Michigan State Crime Lab, used a fingerprint Thursday to identify Daniel Sorensen's body. It had been found Thursday morning on Hidden Ridge Drive in Northville Township.

Sorensen was decapitated and his body was severely burned, police said. His head has not been recovered.

Jim Sorensen said the sex offender conviction occurred when his son was 17 and dating a 14-year-old girl that he met on the Internet. Daniel Sorenson thought the girl was 16 and went to Illinois to meet her.

"He's not a pedophile," Jim Sorensen said. "This was consensual touching. We have a son who has been murdered violently, but we have a view of him as a sex offender, and that is not fair."

He said he does not believe his son's death is related to the sex offense.

The conviction on the fourth-degree sex offense dogged Daniel Sorensen when he applied for jobs, his father said. Most recently, he told his parents he was driving a truck.

"Dan was a social being," his father said. "We called him 'Bear,' because he was like a big old teddy bear."

Northville Township Public Safety Director John Werth said police followed up on leads Friday. They are searching for Daniel Sorensen's red Chevrolet S-10 pickup.

"We are clueless at this time," Jim Sorensen said. "We need the public's help."

So is this an offense still worthy of the death penalty? I know if it was my 14 year old daughter, I'd say "yes". But if it was my 17 year old son, I'd sing a different tune.

The guy's a creep, no doubt about it. But the "punishment" hardly fits the crime.

therein lies the double standard. most guys probably think like you (and me).

i know some states have 'age difference' laws....if a guy and girl are within a certain amount of years age wise, neither can be branded as a sex offender. i agree with it to an extent.

now, looking back, 17 to 14 is a pretty big age/maturity difference. but back when i was 17, girls were girls, and i was relatively scared of them all.

but then you think...if the girl is one day short of 15, and the guy is one day over 17....there ain't THAT big of a difference.

i don't disagree with the sex offender registry in general, but i disagree with how it is applied. if someone is registered, i want to know they are a true POS, and should really be dead, as opposed to a teenager who violated laws that might not be applicable in every state.

17 to 14 ain't that big a difference, especially nowadays. I'll say this though, whoever did it has a real stake in this guy's demise. You don't stab somebody to death, decapitate and burn their body, because they flipped you off on the way to work. Thats something very personal and emotion driven. If all he did was knock boots with his 14 year old girlfriend back in the day I'd say there's something else driving this crime. Either the kid did something else to piss somebody off to that extreme or some sociopath went to town and there may be more to come.

I agree, LawnMM. Normally I'd say he burned the body to try and get rid of it- but to do it in a cul-de-sac? He (or she) was definately sending a message to someone.

Police: Head Found, Possibly That Of Homicide Victim

Investigators found a head at Hines park in Dearborn Heights Saturday, which they believe belongs to a homicide victim, whose decapitated body was found earlier this week. Wayne County Medical Examiner?s Office is expected to confirm the identity on Sunday. Daniel Sorenson?s body was discovered earlier this week about 30 miles from the park in Northville Township. His truck was found in Westland Friday

Investigators executed five search warrants and interviewed people of interest, since they discovered the body.

They are expected to present the findings to the prosecutor?s office on Monday for an arrest warrant.

A bit off this headline, and really not attempting to hijack a thread, but there is a discussion raging on a sports forum I am on about Chris Collins, soon to be former Okalhoma State LB and recently pleader of guilty to felony aggravated sexual assault of a 12 year old girl in Texas. I have a couple of questions concerning the laws in Texas surrounding this crime, like is there no statutory rape, does intent matter, is it mitigating that the girl told him she was 15, he was 17 at the time, and that they had had relations before?
500 fights, that's the number I figured when I was a kid. 500 street fights and you could consider yourself a legitimate tough guy. You need them for experience. To develop leather skin. So I got started. Of course along the way you stop thinking about being tough and all that. It stops being the point. You get past the silliness of it all. But then, after, you realize that's what you are.

Prosecutor calls decapitation murder a 'thrill kill'

    November 12, 2007
    By BEN SCHMITT
    FREE PRESS STAFF WRITER

Wayne County prosecutor Kym Worthy announced today first degree murder charges in connection with the murder and decapitation of 26-year-old Daniel Sorensen.

Charged are Jean Pierre Orlewicz, 17, of Plymouth and Alexander Letkeman, 18, of Westland.

Worthy described the only motive as a "thrill kill."

"I've seen every kind of crime, and still, the idea that there are people that would kill just for the thrill of it is bone chilling," she said.

Worthy said the two defendants invited Sorensen to Orlewica's grandfather's home in Canton on Wednesday with the purpose of killing him. She said the suspects allegedly stabbed Sorensen repeatedly in the back when he entered the garage and then sawed off his head.

Worthy said the killing scene inside the garage had been prepared with tarps covering the floor and cleaning supplies.

She said the suspects wrapped Sorensen's torso and took it to an area near Seven Mile and Ridge Road in Northville, where they allegedly used a blow torch to burn his hands and feet before setting the body on fire.

Sorensen's head was thrown into the River Rouge near Hines Park at the border of Detroit and Dearborn and located over the weekend. His Chevy S-10 pickup truck was found Friday night.

Tips and a statement from at least one of the suspects led to the arrest. She would not elaborate. She said the investigation was continuing.

The two suspects are expected to be arraigned this afternoon.

well shit my first two boyfriends were sex offenders then.

    bottom line

    murder is murder
(if i were to take the life of some shithead because he molested my kid or mother or whatever... i would do it gladly then go turn myself in and deal with the consequences...I accept that what i did was wrong.... eh.. just what i would do)

there is emotion, definately and we all have our rights to those... me personally - i think the headlines do not do this victim justice... eh but that is what the media is about... giving us lots of shit to talk about and figure out until more of the facts sprinkle out days over days later....or hours over hours...
internet dating always freaked me out... something so weird about it.. lol but anyway... also sounds like the 14 year olds parents needed the nanny puter thingy, but i dont know THAT whole story .. so shutting up now

this seems so personal its almost weird.

After reading some of the posts, namely an explaination of just what this guy did to get labled a sex offender, I retract my previous post. I have a, sort of, knee jerk reaction to the words "sex offender" because it almost always refers to someone who is after children or women. If it was just an age difference, I can undsterstand that. I've seen 12-year-old girls that could pass for 22 or 23.
