Dallas Police Officer Shot In Arm

DALLAS -- Two robberies and a carjacking in Mesquite that led to a chase ended with a store owner and the suspect fatally shot and a police officer shot in the arm east of downtown Dallas.
The suspect was believed to have been involved in the fatal shooting of a doughnut shop owner during the robberies of two Mesquite businesses in the 2700 block of Motley Drive at about 10 a.m.
The chase ended in the 5400 block of RL Thornton Freeway at Winslow Avenue before 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

After a foot chase, the suspect tried to carjack a woman at gunpoint as officers surrounded her car.
Shots were fired and 15-year Dallas police veteran Gerry Melgoza, 45, was hit in the arm. The officer is expected to fully recover.
Police shot and killed the suspect in the parking lot.
