Louisiana Cops Retirement System Probed
Gee, after buying failing golf courses as 'ahem' investments, how in the world could you think there's something wrong???

Attorney General Buddy Caldwell's office and the state inspector general are investigating a Louisiana police pension fund.
Attorney General Buddy Caldwell Caldwell's office on Monday confirmed the joint investigation of the Municipal Police Employees' Retirement System, but wouldn't provide any further details.
"The investigation is in the early stages, and that is all we can say at this point," Caldwell spokeswoman Jennifer Roche said in an e-mail.
The retirement system, called MPERS, had been criticized in recent years for investing in golf courses that never turned a profit. The system owns two northwest Louisiana golf courses and had invested in a Texas luxury golf resort developed for pro golfer Hal Sutton.
MPERS Director Kathy Bourque refused to comment Monday on the investigation.
More than 10,000 Louisiana law enforcement employees and retirees are part of the retirement system. Municipalities around the state pay a percentage of their payrolls to the pension fund.

So, 'no comment' on the investigation. Perhaps after the purchases (not to mention a HUGE and ornately landscaped building for just a few employees), perhaps the pension fund is as short as her answer?

Man, for what good it would do, I would throw a duck talking hissy fit if I thought our system was being mismanaged. I hope, for ya'lls sake it gets straightened out. A lot of people have worked hard for a lot of years, counting on that income.

I give credit to LEOFF here in Washington state. It's successfully managed and so well managed that the state keeps wanting to raid it to give loans to themselves.
