Hey, hey, hey, quite pickin' on da cats!! I'll have you know that I've had Phineas Firetail Cat for 8 years now and he hasn't tried to shoot me, stab me, bludgeon me with a blunt instrument or poison me. I think I trust him more than people.
Poor dog's gonna be the fall guy in this BS caper. Then when the guy gets out of the hospital and hurts the dog the fiance' (or any one of the other people in the room at the time) will do nothing to stop it.
