7 USPS Employees Arrested In Drug Investigation

7 USPS Employees Arrested In Drug Investigation - News Story - WEWS Cleveland

CLEVELAND -- Seven current or former U.S. Postal Service employees were indicted Tuesday on multiple drug trafficking and drug possession charges.

After a one-year investigation lead by the USPS Office of Inspector General in Cleveland, special agents said they recovered crack cocaine, PCP, prescription painkillers, marijuana and a handgun.

Those arrested included USPS mail handlers, casual employees, and a motor vehicle operator. One non-USPS employee was also arrested.

Each individual was also indicted on charges of possession of criminal tools for using cell phones to negotiate the drug transactions.

All of the drug transactions by the postal employees either occurred at the Cleveland Processing and Distribution Center or were negotiated while they were working at the P&DC. There are no allegations the employees stole or delayed any U.S. mail.

As part of the investigation, on May 7, 2009, USPS OIG Special Agents and Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a K-9 search of employee lockers and their vehicles at the Cleveland P&DC. Three employees were issued citations by deputies for possession of marijuana.
