State and local LE agencies' training
Hello -
I am new to LEF and as a civilian, would like to thank each and every LEO that reads this board (as well as those who do not) for doing what you do to protect your communities.
With that said, in the interest of full disclosure, I work with a couple of companies that produce equipment that, IMO, is/could be valuable to many LEOs. However, I am not here to sell anything. Rather, I am conducting research about how state and local LE agencies conduct training.
In your experience, do agencies conduct training in-house or do they use external resources to train officers? (I understand that new officers attend the Academy, but in my preliminary research, I have not been able to determine how agencies conduct training for veterans.)
Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help and thanks again for everything you all do to keep us safe.
Joe

That's easy........... The new guys always get nights............. and they either learn to see in the dark or are lost forever.

Whats Night Vision?? J/K
Most departments cant afford that type of equipment for patrol officers. Likely its for just the SWAT types, (in my experience)."An Unarmed man can only flee from evil, and evil is not overcome by fleeing from it." Jeff Cooper

Welcome to the site.
In reference to your question I agree that most departments that do have night vision equipment mostly use an "in-house" training mindset. We use a night time training block yearly to go over how to use the equipment and allow the personel who do not have this equipment issued to them to "play" with it to see how it works.

I absolutely do not feel comfortable answering this question. I don't know who you are. You could be a defense attorney, anti-police, or just a plain old criminal. Don't expect any answers from me on how officers train. That is a tactical and safety issue, and not one appropriate for the public area of this site.
