Crap, Be Careful with Those Hi-Power Lithum-Powered LED Flashlights!!!
Wow, I've had a little 7-watt LED tactical flashight for about 6 months, that I carry at night and in theaters, and keep in my car... It uses two CR123 cells.
Today I used it to look at something in my computer and accidentally left it on for about 30 minutes - That sucker got so hot that I was afraid it was gonna explode - I couldn't even touch the aluminum body, it was so hot - The whole flashlight, not just the lens.
I turned it off and let it sit for a while (behind a barrier), and it appears to be ok now, but of course I'm changing the batteries in case they were damaged.
Then reading on the Internet, I see stories of the things actually exploding and blowing out the bezel - That would suck if you're wearing it at the time. I just wondered if that's happened to any of y'all.
I think I'm gonna replace it with a model that goes into low-power mode if it's left on!

I used to carry one in a covered pouch, and I left it on by mistake ONCE. I was sitting in the squad car, and my ass was getting hotter and hotter, and when I noticed the light was on, I darned near burned my hand turning it off. I don't carry it any longer.

The 9mm has night sights, but that doesn't help ID the target, and it's not a huge burdon to carry that little light.

Streamlight stinger here. Gets hot and once in awhile the button sticks and takes 10 minutes to unstick it. The rubber seal comes off after like a week. Oh well glad its freeA monday morning lunatic, disturbed from time to time. Temporary catatonic madman on occasion..

While not as rugged, the 3watt Maglights get pretty hot after awhile, though manageable. They do a sufficient number on night vision that I think I'll stick to them awhile. 7 watts is a lot do dump from such small cells without some consequences.
