Oh, one more thing - sometimes I'll listen to the same song or piece of music several times in a row and pay attention to individual instruments each time.

I know that I'm a nerd and very comfortable with that fact.

It's a perspective thing. Some people think it's nerdy. I usually write something for my wife or about law enforcement. It helps me relax.

I agree with Buttercup--that's not nerdy, it's cool! You should post some of your poems!

Judging by the quality of writing in your posts, I suspect your poetry is good.

It's not something I would normally do but I'll give it a try. I only have two handy because I don't usually keep them. Here's one. I'll have to type the other.

My Faith

On the seventh day at an unknown hour
After God had shown his power
He said let their be rest this day
For this will help bring a better way
9 other commandments he did state
For us to follow to our fate
Through the ins and outs of our daily life
The good the bad the everyday strife
These commandments are for us to obey
Are they right or wrong or should we say
I’m not smart enough to challenge the book
What I will do is have a look
Into my own soul to find peace of mind
Take comfort he leads me though I’m blind
No longer wonder if there’s more
As for me I’ll leave that to the Lord

And that’s called faith

Here's the other. Open to all criticisim. Had to type it over on this computer. The poems to my wife are on another computer. I don't have access to them right now.

Cops prayer?
(What am I supposed to do?)

Lord, I am a Cop straight strong and true
But Lord all these things I fight against what am I supposed to do?
I try and help this world’s victims but seldom hear thank you
I put monsters in prison but higher powers most often undo
I’ve dealt with murderers, drug dealers, and rapists for this job I love so well
But if I’ve made a difference I certainly cannot tell
Lord I’ve wept child like tears for the people I have jailed
To know their lives are lost and that they will one day wail
If only they would take you as their Savior as I once did
They would see your love is great and troubles they would be rid
Lord I know you love me and I love you
But Lord all these things I fight against what am I supposed to do?
And Jesus replied
Oh my chosen one not worry hear me and hear me well
You cannot deliver all lost souls from the fiery gates of hell
I did not tell you to save lost souls they must do this for themselves
Only spread my love and on their own they will decide to drink from life’s eternal well
Just remember this my child to always seek my face
Do your job and do it well and you will always have a place
And when your time is come to you my angel will be sent
Listen for my words:
Well done my good and faithful servant

These are beautiful poems, lewispso!!!!!!!!!!! I knew they would be good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Subtle, layered reflection on the mysteries and challenges of faith--not simplistic declarations or sappy truisms, but down-to-earth wisdom tempered by humility. So deep, and so nuanced!!!

What I find especially amazing is the perfect integration of content and cadence. Not only are they heartfelt and powerful, but they are also presented in perfectly rhyming iambic meter that highlight the calm rhythm of deep faith--not many modern poets have the discipline to write in rhyme and meter. Reminds me of the classic religious poets, like John Donne and William Blake. Nobody ever called them nerds.

Lewis those were excellent. As long as we have worked together and you have never mentioned anything about your talent.

Actually I do. I peel the labels off of my empty cans of tobacco and stick them on my complaint notebook.

I pretty much collect anything police related. Mostly consisting of model cars and patches though. Nerdy? Yeah probably...

Brought ghost ferns and
Hollows filled with
Skunk cabbage
While waves wrapped
Intricate lacings of weeds
'Round mule spinners

His cyanotic eyes
Were hard enough to make
The sun turn tail and
Tender enough to attract me
To his world of illusion

I don't know if it's "Nerdy" but I wrote a book, and I like to write stories about growing up in rural Wisconsin. And I like patriotic band music and listen to "oldies."
