He was wrong in asking if she wants us to shoot her......he should of said "do you want us to come over and beat her back into submission"?

I can see how he could get confused and why it caused so many problems, just a simple slip of the tongue.

We have a couple dispatchers that really piss me off. The other day I was out with a subject that I thought was barred from an apartment complex. I checked thru dispatch to confirm as they have a barred list to check from. Dispatchers comes back and says he's not barred. But I just knew he was but had to let him go because I couldn't confirm. He was acting odd and I think he had some dope on him but had to let him go. A few minutes later I decided to call dispatch and check with another dispatcher and sure enough he WAS barred.

I made a comment on this on the other board. I think they lady over reacted. They guy was obviously trying to bring a little levidy to the situation. The lady should be ashamed for raising a 12 year old she can't control She wants the police to do in a few minutes what she couldn't do in 12 years. But rather than address the issue at hand, it's got to be someone else's fault.

The dispatcher shouldn't have said what he did just because it was more personal than professional. I think the only thing that should happend to him is a piece of paper in his file- if that.

That's probably the policy toots! We are required to do status checks at 10 minutes, then every 20 minutes after.

The really good deputies have an internal clock - they come up at regular intervals and tell us they are code 4.

And no offense taken Terminator

Ours do too, but only when we're on calls or stops.

I understand that some departments require dispatchers to status officers when they are on routine patrol!

After hearing about the Ohio officer who died during an asthma attack while sitting in his patrol car - maybe not such a bad idea?

Oh, and Rookie, urm...I mean Tony? Your FTO keeping a tally of all your mess-ups?

This is why I'm a proponent for a distress beacon of some sort. In our county, we have a few. There is the red "pizza button" on my portable radio...that overrides all transmissions and opens my mic up. Dispatch knows that it's MY radio because of my five digit radio ID sig that I type into my MDT when I come into service. In that case, anyone can get my current position via MDT or CAD (GPS). The same button is present on my car radio.

There is also an "Emergency" button on our MDT keyboard. It is not marked as anything special. It is one of the never-used keys on the keyboard. Tapping it will cause county-wide EVERY dispatchers' terminal to lock and a giant EMERGENCY box with my unit ID popping up on screen. Same goes for every MDT in every car in the county I work in. In addition, everyone's map pops up, with a red flashing flag showing my location. My dispatcher will start units, then status me. If I don't answer, I can expect help in a few minutes at most.

Yup - we have Emer's and Unit alarms - both will get you ET and 2 cover units.

If you don't answer up on a status check x's 2 - a unit is on the way, while I'm paging the radio.

I love hearing another unit on Tac saying "Dude! Mom's looking for you on primary!"

So how many times does that button get tapped by accident??? I like that idea tho. We don't have a button like that on our MDT. The only hot button we have is on our portable and the shoulder mic.

Thats just to damn funny.

My dispatch is required to ask if we are 10-4 every hour if they do not hear any type of radio traffic from us. And yes that means if you spend 8 hrs in the office because your backed up on paper work you will get asked 8 times if you are 10-4.
