They Reached Into A Burning Vehicle - These were the opening remarks by Sheriff Chris Vasquez as he awarded two Pinal County deputies his agency’s highest honor – the Medal of Valor.
“On August 8, 2001, on State Route 79, Sgt. Dave Hausman and Corporal Louie Vargas were traveling southbound when they saw a plume of black smoke,” Sheriff Vasquez said. “As they drove to the smoke they saw a vehicle engulfed in flames alongside the roadway.”
REAL HEROES. Left to right, Sgt Dave Hausman, Corp. Louis Vargas, and Sheriff Chris Vasquez. Hausman and Vargas entered a burning car not once but twice to save two women who were trapped inside the burning vehicle.
The Sheriff went on to say that Hausman and Vargas ran to the burning vehicle and found two paraplegic females trapped inside. “They reached into the burning vehicle,” Vasquez said, “and pulled one of the females to safety. They quickly returned and pulled the second woman away from the car. These women had and both suffered very serious injuries during the accident. Hausman and Vargas placed themselves in grave danger in a rescue attempt that could have easily killed them. The valor and courage of Sgt. Hausman and Cpl. Vargas are a shining example to all of the citizens of Pinal County. We owe both these officers our deepest respect,” Sheriff Vasquez concluded.Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking websites
