In Monroe, Louisiana, a routine traffic stop turned into a massive drug bust involving over 200 pounds of cocaine. Sgt. Shannon Harkins was working the overnight patrol shift when he saw an 18-wheeler switching lanes improperly when approaching his vehicle from the opposite direction. Sgt. Harkins made the stop and called for backup. When other officers arrived, they interviewed the truck's two occupants, who agreed to let the cops search the vehicle, Harkins told local reporters.
"We pulled back the carpet and something didn't seem right," he said. "That's when we saw the first cellophane package." An extensive search of the tractor trailer revealed that Nicolas Segura Gonzales III, 21, and Daniel Castillo, 46, were hauling 218 pounds of suspected powdered cocaine with an estimated street value of about $10 million. During a news conference, Ouachita Parish Chief Deputy Joe Davis said the drug bust was the largest seizure in parish history. Gonzales and Castillo were both booked on several charges, including possessing 218 pounds of cocaine with the intent to distribute as well as conspiracy to distribute cocaine, improper procedures on approach of an emergency vehicle and, last but not least, improper lane usage.Add this page to your favorite Social Bookmarking websites
