Mayor fires cops that arrested him E-mail

According to KIROTV.com, four police officers in the small King County town of Pacific in Washington State were on patrol recently despite the mayor’s attempts to fire them. The mayor’s attempt to terminate the four officers’ employment was met with protests from local citizens who picketed outside city hall. Pacific Mayor Cy Sun would not even meet with the officers so they could appeal their firings.

Don Thomson was among the couple dozen protesters calling for the recall of Sun during a termination hearing for nearly half the city’s police force.

“He’s above and beyond the law in his mind,” Thomson told reporters.

Mayor Sun refused to speak to the media as he arrived 45 minutes late for the hearing.

He then said he refused to conduct the hearings so long as the officers’ union representative was in the room.

Union rep Michelle Woodrow said the officers have the right to her representation under state and federal labor laws, and according to Pacific’s own civil service rules.

“We see these attempted terminations as retaliatory in nature,” she said.

So why would the mayor arbitrarily fire half the town’s police force?

The four officers were involved in the arrest of Mayor Sun recently after he attempted to break into a sealed records room at City Hall. The room was ordered sealed by the King County Sheriff’s Office amid allegations that some records had been tampered with or destroyed.

“This is draining on the department, department members, families; it’s devastating,” said Sgt. Michael Bos, one of the four fired officers.

Sun claims he wants to root out corruption in the city. Since he’s been in office virtually all the department heads of local agencies have been fired or quit.

As for the fired officers, they plan to keep working.

“I’m gonna continue to do my job and do my best to keep this community as safe as possible,” one of the cops told reporters..

Whether of not the officers will be paid is unclear.
