If only all arrests were this easy. According to a report from the Brattleboro Reformer, a Vermont man says he got a surprise after he noticed a man running away from his vehicle. Matt Hyde, the would-be victim correctly surmised that the suspect had been trying to steal his stereo equipment.
But maybe that wasn't all the thief tried to grab so Hyde opened the trunk of his SUV to make sure his property was intact.
Surprise! It was thief number two trying to hide out in the trunk.
When Hyde, of Brattleboro, VT found the accomplice hiding in the back he quickly closed the hatch trapping the suspect inside. Hyde then drove to the police station where the man was arrested.
It was a risky move. Hyde says the thief could have jumped over the seat to try to escape or to attack him, but thankfully he didn't.
The Brattleboro Reformer newspaper says the man was arrested but his name wasn't released. Police are now searching for the accomplice who ran away.
