When you think of bank robberies, it’s usually the big cities that come to mind. After all, New York City averages more than one bank robbery every day. But smaller cities take no comfort in the perception of bank robbery as a big-city issue. Just ask the cops in Kalamazoo, Michigan. When this article was written, law enforcement personnel in the area were investigating their tenth bank robbery in the last year.

The holdup of the National City Bank at Michigan Avenue and the Kalamazoo Mall is the first reported in Kalamazoo in 2010, but it is at least the ninth in the city since last January and the fourth downtown.

The more recent robbery of the National City Bank branch in downtown Kalamazoo was the ninth bank heist in the city in just over a year.

Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety officers said that in the robbery of the National City Bank, one suspect walked into the bank, indicated he had a weapon and left with an undisclosed amount of money.

One suspect was described as a black man in his early 20s, about 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, wearing a black dress shirt, light-colored tie, dark pants, dark shoes and a black bandana at the time of the robbery.

Another suspect was a white man in his late 20s or early 30s, 5 feet 8 inches to 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a medium build.

He was seen wearing a brown and white print jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
