| Five years for fake Fed |

He just might be the most successful police impersonator of all time. Bill Jakob was the guy you may have read about in APB. One day he showed up in rural Missouri and told local law enforcement that he was “DEA” and there to help them win the war on drugs. He drove a Crown Vic, had wild stories to tell from his career, and led local cops on scores of drug raids. He even had a phone number to call (his wife’s, as it turns out) should anyone have wanted to “check him out.” But now Jakob has gone from a “hero drug warrior” to pariah. The Missouri man has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty last fall to a huge list of federal charges, including 13 counts of impersonating federal officers. Authorities say he carried a shotgun, participated in drug raids, and made arrests until the scam unraveled in the eastern Missouri town of Gerald. Jakob’s attorney has said his client perpetrated the elaborate scheme because he wanted deep down to be a police officer. His actions have prompted lawsuits against the town and also led to the ouster of Gerald’s police chief. subscribeComments (1)
