Sprint and National Police Week

National Police Week kicked off on Saturday, May 10 and includes a series of events taking place in the Washington, DC area through May 17. Sprint is a proud sponsor of this collaborative effort that brings together a host of organizations dedicated to honoring the service and sacrifice of America’s law enforcement community.

Events for the week began with a 5K run in the Nation’s Capital on May 10. Sprint was the major sponsor of the run which took place in downtown Washington and passed by the U.S. Capitol.

The sold-out race attracted over 2,000 runners with fans lining the streets to cheer them on. The race is coordinated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Agents Association and proceeds from the run go to Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS).

A check in the amount of 45K will be presented on May 14 at the America’s Most Wanted Night of 1,000 Captures reception in New York City to Bryan Vorndran of the FBI. Vorndran will accept the check on behalf of COPS.

Attendees at the race were able to try out the Sprint Racing Experience, a NASCAR simulator that puts them in the driver’s seat and gives them a chance to see what it’s really like to be NASCAR driver.

And on Sunday, May 11, Sprint sponsored the 13th annual Law Ride which included our own Chris Hackett, Vice President of Business and Public Sector Sales Programs, who rode in the procession with Sprint partner, ICOP.

Over 800 motorcycles departed from R.F.K. Stadium at 11:00 a.m. and wound their way through the streets of Washington, DC to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Proceeds from the law ride went to the National Law Enforcement Officers Museum building slated to open in 2011.

The new museum is dedicated to the men and women who protect and serve our communities across the nation. At the end of the ride, Hackett presented a check to Craig Floyd, Chairman and CEO of the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund for $20,000 along with our partners, Panasonic and ICOP, who each donated $5000 to the total amount.

Sprint is grateful for the opportunity to honor the service and sacrifice of America’s law enforcement community by actively supporting National Police Week and looks forward to participating again next year.
