The National Law Enforcement Museum will tell the story of law enforcement in America through exhibits, collections, research and education. Groundbreaking for the world-class institution will take place on October 14, 2010, with the Museum scheduled to open in late 2013.

Authorized by Congress in the year 2000, the National Law Enforcement Museum is a 55,000 square foot, mostly underground museum to be located in Judiciary Square, adjacent to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. The Museum will feature high-tech, interactive exhibitions, historical and contemporary artifacts, extensive educational programming and a research center. The project is being led by the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, a non-profit organization that honors and commemorates the service and sacrifice of law enforcement in the United States.

The privately funded Museum has launched an $80 million capital campaign, with more than $40 million raised to date. Former Presidents George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton serve as co-chairs of the Museum's National Honorary Campaign Committee, which also includes seven former Attorneys General of the United States, as well as other former government officials and celebrities.
