All Traffic Solutions Case Study E-mail

ATS

The Fresno Unified School District is the fourth-largest in California, with 106 facilities serving 80,000 students. Traffic safety in the areas around the schools has been an issue for years. Don Weaver, Emergency Planning Coordinator for the district, explains, "Many of our schools were built for fewer students and for a student population that walked rather than drove to school. The end result has been problems with congestion around the schools and with the added volume comes increased problems with people obeying the law."

Four years ago the district purchased one pair of radar speed displays from All Traffic Solutions, a leading innovator in the traffic safety marketplace. The district wanted to see if the signs would encourage drivers to slow down in the school zone and if the issues related to congestion could be mitigated.

The impact of the signs was immediately noticeable and over the past three years the district has installed 29 more pairs of signs!

Jeff Gordon and DuPont™ Join the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund to Honor Officers Killed in the Line of Duty E-mail

NLEOMF

Washington, DC - The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund has teamed up with Jeff Gordon and DuPontTM to run a special www.PoliceMuseum.org paint scheme accompanied by the Memorial Fund's "Rose and Shield" symbol on the No. 24 DuPontTM Chevrolet at Dover International Speedway on September 26, 2010. This is a campaign to raise awareness and funds for the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund (NLEOMF) by rousing public donations and promoting sales of DuPontTM/Police Museum branded die-cast cars and commemorative T-shirts.

With the anniversary of September 11th approaching, the special design strives to respect, honor and remember the law enforcement officers who lost their lives on that fateful day, and those who continue to protect Americans every day of the year.

"I truly hope NASCAR fans see www.PoliceMuseum.org on the car and visit the web site to make donations, purchase a T-shirt or a No. 24 DuPontTM die-cast of the paint scheme that resembles the colors of a police cruiser, or to see how else they can get involved," said Jeff Gordon.

Concerns of Police Survivors 2010 Hands-On Programs E-mail

C.O.P.S.

Every year Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.) hosts a week-long camp for children ages 6-14, a wilderness experience for teens ages 15-20, and weekend retreats for adult children, siblings, spouses, in-laws, and parents of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. In fall of 2010, C.O.P.S. will host an inaugural affected co-workers retreat.

"C.O.P.S retreats help you see that life can get better and that moving on does not mean forgetting. C.O.P.S understands the sacrifice your officer went through and helps you keep their memory alive." - Melanie Teagan, surviving spouse of Lt. Delmar Teagan, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, End of Watch 4/13/2007

In 2009, 649 survivors attended C.O.P.S. Hands-On Programs. The average cost was $592 per person. All programs provided to the survivors by C.O.P.S. are free of charge; the price paid is already too high.

Recognize the Signs of Seizures E-mail

Epilepsy Foundation

Epilepsy is a serious neurological disorder that can develop at any time in life, but there is a particular susceptibility in young children and the elderly. The condition produces seizures, which can range from a momentary disruption of the senses to short periods of unconsciousness or staring spells to convulsions.

A seizure happens when a brief, strong surge of electrical activity affects part or all of the brain. When a person has two or more unprovoked seizures, they are considered to have epilepsy. Epilepsy affects more than three million people in the United States and 50 million people worldwide; yet, many people do not recognize the signs of a seizure.

Many times, the symptoms are misinterpreted as alcoholic or drug-induced intoxication. Some epilepsy symptoms have even been known to confuse law enforcement officers, who may mistake someone experiencing a seizure or post-seizure behaviors for mentally ill or criminal behavior.
